Obituary

Barbara Ann Bennett, passed away on December 3, 2019 surrounded by her loving children. Devoted wife of the late Keith for 64 years. Loving mother of Rosemary McFadden (Don), Barbara Witt (Dan), Scott (Theresa), the late Russell (Tammy) and Keith Jr. (Denise). Beloved Grandmother to Heather, Jennifer, Christopher, Matthew, Alyssa, Ashley, Denise, Debbie, Keith III, Reagan, Natalie, Cameron and Faith. Loving Great-Grandmother to Mackenzie, Addison, Lincoln, Reid, Adalynn, Mason, Dawson, Teagan, Benjamin, Charlie, Maximus, Logan, Kendra, and Keith IV.

Barbara was born on June 21,1933 to William and Madora (Pruneau) Breen in Detroit, MI. She attended Dominican High School and shortly after graduating, married her high school sweetheart, Keith.

Barbara was a stay at home mother to her five children. She was involved in their many activities, including serving as a Girl Scout leader and PTA member. She also served on the Board of Directors for the March of Dimes, ran a temporary clinic for the Salk vaccine, was an active member of the Ladies of Charity and earned an Associates Degree from Oakland Community College. She continued her community service throughout her life, often with Keith by her side, volunteering at Furniture Bank of Southeastern Michigan, Sarah Fisher Home and Lighthouse of Oakland County, where they were named "Volunteers of the Year." She had many other interests including travel, gardening, bird watching, genealogy, entertaining, a love of the arts, reading and loved visiting Disneyworld. She was always open for an adventure, whether it was riding in a hot air balloon, learning to fly or traveling to new places.

A devout Catholic, one of the greatest highlights of her life was meeting Pope Pius XII with forty other pilgrims. Her strong faith provided her considerable strength and direction throughout her life. God and AA were her guiding lights through her 27 years of sobriety. She was an inspiration to many others in the program.

The most important things in her life were her husband and children. She stated that as an only child, the energy level of a large, loving family made her happy. She loved to coordinate day trips to the theater, museums, the symphony or the much loved family camping trips and summer vacations at Houghton Lake. Christmas and the 4th of July became strong family traditions that live on today through her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her spunkiness, independence and willingness to challenge the status quo.

The family will receive friends Sunday, December 8 from 3-8 p.m. with a brief Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Rd. (between Maple and Big Beaver), Troy 248-362-2500.

The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, December 9 at 10 a.m. at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, 771 Old Perch Rd., Rochester. Visitation at church will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Memorial tributes may be made to Angela Hospice (Livonia) or the Furniture Bank of Southeastern Michigan (Pontiac).
