Obituary

Chester Casimir Bator, 93, and beloved husband of Dolores for 69 years, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 7, 2019.

Chester C. Bator cherished his wife and family deeply, grew up in a Polish neighborhood in Detroit, was a dedicated automotive industry accountant, supported activities in Detroit and Southfield, and was a special member of the Orchard Lake Schools and V.F.W. He golfed avidly, traveled widely with his wife, Dolores, and lived fully the many years God granted. Chet shared his strong Catholic faith, courage, humor, and charitable efforts with neighbors, work associates, golfing buddies, and friends and relatives everywhere. Chester died peacefully at home on Coral Gables with his wife and family at his side on August 7, 2019.

Chester Casimir Bator was born in Detroit March 3, 1926, to Peter and Sophie Bator. He graduated from St. Mary's Prep and the University of Detroit. In 1946-47 he served as a U.S. Army surgical technician in Japan. After meeting Dolores at a Dom Polski dance, Chester and Dolores married on July 4, 1950. They celebrated 69 years of marriage and active family life with their six children. Chester was chief accountant at Hawthorne Metal Products for thirty years and later worked for International Silver Corp. and McCurdy Steel a division of Masco Company.

Chester's family is his legacy and treasure. He was husband to Dolores, father to Paul, Gregory (Cecilia), Louise (Harold Kurtz), Andrea (Albert Butlin), William (Carol), Nancy. He was a beloved grandfather to David (Meagan), Jeffrey (Courtanie), Christopher (Meredith), Augusta (Aaron Kearly), Benjamin, Philip, Daniel (Staci), Gabriela, Lindsay, Alex, and the late Michael Tessler. He took joy in his great-grandchildren, Harper, Ezra, Beatrice, Charlie. Chester was an uncle and great-uncle to many beautiful nieces and nephews.

Chester began working in his family's Perfection Creamery and later Bator's Bar on Joy Road. Family life was enriched with weekly Sunday outings at Sugden Lake with family and friends. Chet contributed earnestly to VFW Post 6896 on fundraising efforts. Chet engaged friends and strangers wherever he traveled with smiles, card tricks, humor, and genuine Interest in their lives. He had a knack for organizing golf leagues, outings, and football pools. As a 1946 proud graduate of Orchard Lake St. Mary's, Chet took special interest in supporting the basketball and football programs. He was awarded the Screaming Eagle Award from Orchard Lake in 2016 in recognition for his years as a loyal fan. He took delight with gardening, collecting bulldog mementos, and following sports programs. His fondest joy in recent years was greeting the arrival of his great-grand-children.

Chester held his Catholic faith close to his heart. His charitable spirit, love and kindness touched all. May he rest in peace.
