Obituary

On Sunday, December 29th, 2019, Dennis Keith Siemiet, of Rochester Hills, MI, beloved husband of 46 years, father of three, grandfather, brother, and uncle passed away at age 68.

Dennis was born on May, 11, 1951 in Detroit, MI to Leon and Reta (Hillman) Siemiet. He graduated with an engineering degree from Lake Superior State University in 1973 where he met and married his bride of 46 years, Deborah (Sorovetz) Siemiet on November 17, 1973. Together they raised their son David and two daughters, Diane and Dawn and enjoyed their wonderful grandsons, Riley, Gabriel and Isaac.

Dennis was an early Detroit area computer and electrical engineering pioneer. He gained local notoriety and advanced his career working in the defense industry where he holds multiple patents. After beginning in Detroit his career took him to St. Louis and then to western Michigan. In the late 1990’s he shifted to the automotive engineering field back in the Detroit area.

He is best known amongst his friends and family as a faithful, joyous man with a kind and tender heart attached to a witty personality which quickly endeared him to all whom he encountered. His love of tinkering and woodworking filled much of his time over the years and he always took time to share his love of building (and sometimes breaking) with others. Family was of upmost importance to him and he loved spending quality time with them.

In 2006 he developed Posterior Cortical Atrophy (a.k.a. Benson’s Disease) but decided early on to add his upbeat spirit and wry wit to how he would face the challenges ahead of him. Dennis has been a regular and respected figure within the St. Hugo of the Hills parish community. His faith and acceptance of his illness was unwavering and an inspiration to us all. His Herculean efforts and undying support from his wife have advanced knowledge and understanding of Benson’s disease within the academic and medical care communities which will hopefully lead to advancements in diagnosis and care In the future.

Dennis is survived by his wife Debbie, their three children, David, Diane and Dawn, brother Larry, and grandchildren, Riley, Gabriel and Isaac.

As you grieve with us or wish to reach out to offer support to us, we ask only this of you in order to help us honor the spirit of this wonderful man:
1. As soon as you are able, reach out to someone whom you love (parent, sibling, beloved family member) and say you love them in your own way.
2. Do a kind thing for another with no thought of yourself. The size or recipient of the kindness doesn’t matter, only bringing goodness to another.

Memorial donations can be made to St. Hugo of the Hills Church in memory of Dennis Siemiet for adding handicap doors to the back/west entrance by the handicap parking. Donations can be made online at the St. Hugo’s website; https://www.sthugo.org/ by clicking on 'online giving' then select miscellaneous donations, then write in memory of Dennis Siemiet in the special intentions section.

Love and gentle kindness were his greatest gifts to the world and we now carry a wonderful challenge to continue his legacy.
