Dorothy was a former resident of Bloomfield Hills and Birmingham.
She was a graduate of Madison West High School in Wisconsin where she excelled in academics and creative arts. She was a member of Tri Delta Sorority at the University of Wisconsin where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in journalism and advertising. She received a bachelor's degree in education from Wayne State University.
A former advertising manager and executive, Dorothy was one of the youngest and the first female member of the Milwaukee Press Club.
She was also a former elementary teacher for the Farmington public school system teaching at Fairview Elementary School.
She was an active member of the DAR and Dames of Magna Carta. Dorothy also belonged to the Heugenot Society and the American Association of University Women.
Dorothy also enjoyed genealogy, travel, sailing, painting, Bridge and playing the piano and organ. She was also a "wicked Ping-Pong player" and former putting champion.
Beloved wife for 63 years of Commander David W. Zimmer, US Navy, retired. Dear mother of David R. (Donna), Stephen E. (Susan), Dr. John W. (Naywon) and Thomas A. (Patrice). Grandmother of Amy, Kristen, Julie, Jennifer, Andrew, Matthew, Scott, Michael, Zachary, Trevor and great grandson Alexander.
Family will receive friends at A.J. Desmond & Sons (Vasu, Rodgers & Connell Chapel), 32515 Woodward Ave. (btwn 13-14 Mile) Friday 5-8p.m.
Funeral service Saturday 10:30a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 1669 W. Maple Rd., Birmingham, MI 48009. Visitation begins at church 10a.m.
