Obituary

Edmund Housey, December 25, 2019, Age 92. Beloved husband of Dorothy for 62 years. Loving father of Michael (Marne), David and Paul (Amber). Devoted grandfather of Emily, Kathryne, Benjamin, Michael, Elizabeth and Matthew. Ed was the third born of eight children. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Born on St. Patrick’s Day and called Home on Christmas Day.

Ed Housey loved to be with his family and friends, telling jokes and stories, holding court, taking care of others, celebrating life through his food, laughing and sharing a “cold one.” It is only fitting that a day before dying, at age 92, he requested a cold beer and enjoyed a last meal of grape leaves and butter pecan ice cream.

Ed lived by a code in which his family’s name was his reputation, and to him, reputation meant everything. His reputation is his legacy as a man who lived with unwavering integrity, strong conviction and with an unlimited capacity to love, which you could see in his eyes and feel from his heart. He loved to golf and sing, had a contagious laugh and made the best of every situation. In tough times, he would always remind his family and friends that “God will provide”. He lived the Gospels by cooking for thousands and feeding the poor, always with a smile on his face.

The family will receive friends Sunday 2-6 p.m. at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Rd. (between Maple and Big Beaver), 248-362-2500.

The Funeral Mass will be on Monday 10:30 a.m. at Christ, Our Light! Catholic Church, 3077 Glouchester, Troy. Visitation at church begins at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorials to Building Bridges, P.O. Box 350, Birmingham, MI 48012.
