Elaine Cecelia Larson
Elaine was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 9, 1934 to Lawrence and Ellen Mills. She graduated from Mackenzie High School and went on to junior college.
While working at Ford Motor Co., she met and married Roger Larson and had 4 children. In 1977, she began working at Southfield Christian School as a bookkeeper, eventually becoming the Business Manager. She retired from Southfield Christian in 1996.
Elaine was a strong woman who fought colon cancer in 1993, and continued to work despite the effects of chemotherapy, rarely missing a day of work.
Elaine committed her life to Christ, and her faith was strong. She was an active member of at Highland Park Baptist Church, serving on the Deaconess Board and the Nominating committee. She also served in the nursery for many years.
Elaine often looked for opportunities to help others. In retirement, she volunteered at Beaumont Hospital, bringing comfort to many patients. She also tutored children at Westside Christian Academy in Detroit. Most recently, she volunteered her time at Encore Resale in Southfield, a ministry of Southfield Christian School.
Elaine was a warm and kind woman, and she opened her home to many people. It was not uncommon to find various school teachers, close friends, or family at her house for dinner, or just to share a few stories.
Elaine loved to sew, garden, read, and spend time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her brothers, James Mills and Pat Mills, and her sisters, Kay Leverton and Shirley Powser. Dear mother of Curt, Eric and Kevin Larson (Allison) and Lori Nelson (Brian). Grandmother of Alessandro, Dillon and Henry Larson, and Haley and Madelyn Nelson.
Family will receive friends Monday 3-8pm at the A.J. Desmond & Sons (Vasu, Rodgers & Connell Chapel), 32515 Woodward Ave. (btwn 13-14 Mile), (248) 549-0500.
Funeral service Tuesday, 11am at the Highland Park Baptist Church, 28600 Lahser, Southfield, 48034. Visitation begins at 10am.
