Obituary

Eleanor ‘Jean’ Westcott, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away at The Sheridan of Birmingham on Monday, April 15, 2019. Jean was greatly loved by her family and many friends and will be will be greatly missed.

Jean was born in Jackson, Michigan on December 17,1921 to the late Albert and Veda Furnival. She was raised with her two late brothers, Gilbert and Maurice Furnival. Jean was involved with her family's business, Furnival Flowers, which spurred her love of gardening, flower arranging and the creative arts..

She attended Michigan State University with an interest in music. Jean loved playing the organ, which she beautiful played at her church and for the children's choir. She was an avid supporter of the Michigan Opera Theatre, Meadowbrook Musical Festival, and Detroit Institute of Arts.

Jean was married to the late William Westcott for 68 years. William was a veterinarian and together with Jean they founded Westcott Animal Hospital in Detroit in 1945. Jean and Bill established a world -class veterinarian hospital and were involved with many state and national veterinarian functions.

In 1955 they moved to Birmingham, Michigan and raised their three wonderful children, David (Deb) Westcott of North Carolina, Larry (Vicki) Westcott of Farmington,Michigan and Betsy (Peter) Coats of Birmingham, Michigan. Jean is also survived by her grandchildren Greg (Ashley) Westcott, Jennifer Westcott, Lindsay (Josh) Nast, Allison (Todd) Cole, Megan (CT) Eldridge, Stephanie Westcott and Michelle Westcott.

Jean is also survived by eleven great grandchildren whom she loved to be with. They are Langdon, Mason, Benjamin, Jacob, Caleb, Issac, Reagan, Gavin, William, Charles and Ru Mei.

Jean loved being with her family and many dear friends in Michigan and Marco Island, Florida. In addition to family gatherings, her life long interests were her church, The Kirk in the Hills, decorating, flowers, music, and the creative arts .

This truly loving lady will be missed by all and the entire family and family of friends will greatly miss her.

Memorial Service Friday, May 3, 11am at Kirk in the Hills, 1340 W. Long Lake, Bloomfield Hills.
