Obituary

Elton W. Blose, a resident of Troy, Michigan, peacefully passed away surrounded by family on April 16, 2019, at the age of 87. Elton was the loving husband of Janice for 65 years, and dear father of Barbara Slavin (Donald), Kathryn Elliott (Gregg), Deborah Harchelroad (Gary), Daniel Blose and Thomas Blose (Holly). And a loving "Papa" to 11 grandchildren - Kristin, Eric, Christopher (Meghan), Timothy (Katherine), Sarah (Matthew), Elizabeth (Joseph), Stephen (Elizabeth), Kimberly, Julie, Nicholas and Jack, and great grandchildren Ethan and Connor. He was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Jessie Blose, brother Donald Blose, daughter Holly Ryan and granddaughter Kelley Harchelroad.

Elton was born in Hazleton, Pennsylvania on August 7, 1931, the younger of two children. He enjoyed participating in Boy Scouts, Civil Air Patrol and church activities. He met his loving wife Janice while they both attended Syracuse University. While there, he was a proud member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and ROTC, graduating with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He returned to school later in life, earning a master's degree in Health Administration from Central Michigan University.

Supporting his country was very important to Elton. He served four years in the US Air Force and retired after 22 years as a major in the Michigan Air National Guard. In the late 1960s, Elton served on active duty during the riots in Detroit.

He enjoyed a long career in healthcare administration and was highly respected for his leadership, loyalty and integrity. In his retirement years, he remained involved in his community through the Troy Community Center, OPC, the American Legion as commander and chaplain, and the Veterans Memorial Committee of Troy.

Elton's passions included Civil War history, family vacations on Walloon Lake, and camping with any of his children and their friends who would go! He displayed a sense of humor and a humility that were appreciated by many.

A faith-filled man, Elton loved the Lord and valued his relationship with First United Methodist Church of Birmingham. A memorial service is scheduled on Tuesday, April 23 at First United Methodist Church of Birmingham, 1589 W. Maple Road, Birmingham, Michigan, 48009. The family will receive friends at the Church beginning at 1:00 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be directed to The Charles Edwards Post #14, American Legion Birmingham - Troy, 1340 W. Maple Road, Troy, MI 48084 or to a charity of your choice.

The family expresses their gratitude for the care and compassion extended to Elton by the Beaumont Hospital - Troy staff.

~Lovingly Submitted by the Family~
