Obituary

Eugene S. Zembrzuski passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2017. He leaves behind Audre, his wife of 61 years, his daughters Linda Yaroch (David), Sandra Zembrzuski, Karen Zembrzuski (John Weber), and granddaughters Mallory and Shannon Yaroch.

Gene is preceded in death by his parents Ludwig and Josephine, his brothers Edward (Esther) and Louis (Irene, Helen), and brother-in-law Angelo Kellapoures. He is survived by his brothers Zeno (Sophie), Leonard (the late Thomasine), and his sister Angeline Beckton (Cecil), as well as many nieces and nephews.

Growing up as the youngest son to Polish immigrants, Gene learned family and hard work are two of the most important things in life. Born on March 17, 1933, he would joke that one day a year he was Irish instead of Polish. Gene was raised as a devout Catholic, and he remained active in the church for his entire life.

Gene was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving in the Korean War on the USS Burlington and USS Manchester.

He was a graduate of the University of Detroit (Bachelor's), the University of Michigan (Master's), and the Harvard University Business Program. Gene then shared his love of learning with students as an adjunct professor with the University of Detroit Mercy and the University of Michigan, Dearborn, for three years.

Gene began his career in the automotive industry with American Motors Corporation, working his way up to Executive Vice President of AM General, where he headed up the Humvee project. He later then became the President of Hercules Engines. Gene also worked as a CPA with Arthur Young Corportation, as a real estate agent for Thompson Brown, and as the Executive Vice President for the Walls Pacific Corporation, working with foreign contracting.

Gene was fortunate to travel the world for both business and pleasure. He loved to share his stories about travelling to Asia, Europe, Africa, and throughout the U.S. One cherished work trip was to President Ronald Reagan's Ranch where he delivered a Humvee that had been converted into an ambulance.

Gene and Audre were active in George Romney's political run, as well as on a local level with Martin Howrylak's run for State Representative.

After retiring, Gene filled his days with reading, gardening, road trips, experimenting with cooking, and spending time with his family.

The family will receive friends Sunday 1-7pm at A.J. Desmond and Sons (Price Chapel), 3725 Rochester Rd.(between Big Beaver & Wattles), Troy, 248-689-0700. Funeral Mass Monday 10am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 280 E. Square Lake Rd., Troy. Memorial tributes to the Salvation Army.
