~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Francis (Frank) Zech was born September 10, 1922 in Grosse Pointe to Francis and Eva Zech. He graduated from St. Ambrose High School where he played lineman on the football team. Soon after, he joined the United States Navy and served until December 1945, earning many honors during his service.
He married Georgia Marian Hart July 13, 1946, and was married to Marian for 58 years. He was father to Terry and Brian (Karen), grandfather to Carrie, Andrea, and Dan, and great-grandfather of RJ and Stephanie. He was also brother to Charles, the late John, and the late Mary Lou Manion. He loved attending the grandchildren’s sporting and school events, and the grand kids could certainly hear the cheers and applause from Grandpa.
Frank loved people, and was delighted to help friends and strangers alike in any way he could. He truly personified the quote “he would give you the shirt off his own back”. Frank worked for 38 years at Sears Roebuck, mostly at the Gratiot and Van Dyke store before finishing his career at the Macomb Mall store. If you needed men’s clothes, Frank was there to help you. After his retirement, he served as a voting precinct supervisor in Shelby Township.
Frank also loved to fish, and would be out on Lake St. Clair as often as he could. He taught his sons, grandson, granddaughter, and daughter-in-law how to fish. He knew Lake St. Clair like the back of his hand and often would be catching perch two at a time on his line.
He also was involved in the local community, serving in various positions in the homeowners’ association in his St. Clair Shores neighborhood as well as being a block captain for his condo association group in Shelby Township. He served as the Baseball Commissioner for the local baseball league in his St. Clair Shores neighborhood. He also worked with his wife Marian to have the most beautiful flower beds around. They also hosted many a neighborhood party in the family backyard pool. In his later years, he served as an usher at Evanswood Church of God.
Memorials can be made to Evanswood Church of God, 2601 East Square Lake Road, Troy, MI 48085.
