Obituary

Gary is survived by his children; Steve, Jeff and Julie Valentine (Thomas). He is also survived by his grandchildren; Alyssa, Brendan, Lindsay and Gavin. Gary will be missed by his longtime companion, Kay Hartwell as well as her children; Diane Mazuek, Mary Nofs (John), Carolyn Waller, Leigh Williams (Jeff) and their children who knew Gary as a grandfather; Francie, Isabel, Johnny, Regina, Adam, Brendan, Emma, Billie, George, Brianna, Katrina, Jeffrey and Luke. Gary was the son of the late Walter and Beatrice and brother of the late Terrence and Lawrence.

Gary’s motto was “Promptness is politeness” and he lived his life with that courteous philosophy. Gary loved his family above all else however, there was a soft spot for a certain red 2002 Corvette convertible in his life! Gary enjoyed spending time at his summer home in Detour, MI (in the UP), Golf, boating, four-wheelers and was known by all for his love of reading. Gary enjoyed music and had diverse taste ranging from Ann Murray, Neil Diamond, Tony Bennett, Garth Brooks and even some top 40 music of the day. He also played the trumpet and French horn at one time.

Visitation will take place Friday from 2-8PM at A.J. Desmond & Sons, 2600 Crooks road, Troy with a vigil service at 7PM. Funeral Mass will take place Saturday at 11AM at St. Kieran Catholic Church, Mound Road, Shelby Twp with visitation at church beginning at 10:30AM.
