Obituary

Gilbert Kruper entered into eternity on June 14, 2019 at the age of 77. Gil was the loving husband of Eileen. Beloved father of John Kruper (Dana) and Karen Nielsen (Issac). Cherished grandfather of Makena Kruper and Zachary Kruper. Brother of Joyce Figlar (David) and Janice Kupiec (Daniel). Gil was preceded in death by his parents John and Eva Kruper.

Gil was born in Brownsville, PA and grew up in Redford Township, Ml. He graduated from Redford Union High School and earned a BA in accounting from Ferris State University. He worked as an auditor for the U. S. General Accounting Office for two years until being drafted into the army. He spent one year of his tour of duty in Vietnam in 1969.

When Gil concluded his military service he returned to GAO where he worked for another 25 years. After early retirement, due to GAO closing their Detroit office, he worked another ten years in the private sector.

Gil and Eileen married in 1979. Eileen says that throughout their 40-year marriage he was her rock and calming presence. They've been members of Faith Lutheran Church in Troy since 1991, where Gil was an usher until his final illness. Gil had a heart for helping the less fortunate and he and Eileen have supported several, individual children through Compassion lnternational's food and Christian education programs in foreign countries for many years.

Gil was a long-time volunteer at Crossroads Pregnancy Center (now Crossroads Care Center in Auburn Hills), serving on the board of directors for five years. For several years he also delivered Meals on Wheels in Troy.

An avid softball player, Gil managed the team he played on for 30 years. He also loved to garden, spending many, summer days planting and maintaining his large garden in the back yard.

Family will receive friends from 5-9pm on Wednesday, June 19, at A.J. Desmond and Sons Price Chapel, 3725 Rochester Rd., Troy (between Big Beaver and Wattles).

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30am on June 20, at Faith Lutheran Church, 37635 Dequindre Rd., Troy. Visitation at church begins at 10:00am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Compassion International or Crossroads Care Center.
