Obituary

Grace Longacre, 102, wife of the late Melvin, passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2019.

Grace was born Florence Grace Erdman on November 9, 1917 to the late Lloyd and Irene Erdman in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She grew up in Philadelphia, and married Melvin Longacre, who she met while working at Philco Corporation also in Philadelphia. They were blessed with a daughter, Judith. Sadly, at the age of 39, Melvin passed away and left Grace to raise Judith (then seven years old) on her own.

A truly hard-working and multi-talented woman, Grace was experienced in office management and used her multiple skills to reinvent her life. A dedicated mother, Grace didn’t let anything prevent her from giving her daughter every opportunity she could. She was always there for Judy and instilled the value of hard work, education, and family in her as well.

Grace was always part of our summer reunions when our extended family spent time at our favorite haunts at the New Jersey beaches or on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. These vacations will never be forgotten. The adventures and camaraderie we shared are cherished memories for all of us and will be with us forever.

Grace will be remembered not only for her drive and determination, but also for her humor that kept us all laughing until she departed from this life.

Later in life, Grace found a significant other in the late James McHugh whose sense of humor and loving nature gave our entire family great joy.

Grace is survived by her daughter Judith Chubb (Thomas). She was also the devoted grandmother of Erik Chubb (Emily Watters) and Alexis Damasceno (Matheus). Proud great-grandmother to Dylan Chubb and Zoey Damasceno. Dear sister of the late Elizabeth Stobbey and Lloyd Erdman, Jr

A memorial service will be celebrated on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at 2:00pm at A.J. Desmond & Sons (Vasu, Rodgers & Connell Chapel) 32515 Woodward Ave (between 13-14 Mile). Visitation will begin at the funeral home on Thursday at 9:00am.

Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are asked to make a donation to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Grace’s memory.
