Obituary

Gust Feles, Age 88, of Bloomfield Hills, passed away on July 5, 2016. Beloved husband of Anne Feles for over 49 years. Devoted father of Andrea (Ioannis) Katsimbaris and Nicholas (Melanie) Feles. Loving grandfather of Eve and Sebastian Feles. Dear brother of Paul Feles and the late Nick (Sally) Feles. Uncle to the late Tom Feles and Phillip Feles. Brother-In-Law to Joyce and Michael Asher, uncle of Marlo (Ingmar) Korstanje and Marc Asher. Great uncle to Kasen Korstanje.

After graduation from the High School of Commerce in Detroit, he served his country in the U.S. Navy in Seattle, Washington wherein he received an Honorable Discharge in 1946. Upon returning to Detroit, he attended and graduated from Walsh Institute of Accountancy and Business Administration in Detroit, with a degree in Accounting. He began his professional career at Standard Accident Insurance Company in Detroit, Michigan. He subsequently moved to Carhartt, Inc., where he served in various leadership capacities including Executive Vice President and he sat on the Board of Directors. During his distinguished and dignified career at Carhartt, he helped lead the company to unprecedented global and domestic success in the apparel industry.

Upon his retirement from Carhartt, he enjoyed great success in the real estate market where he owned and managed several properties in the metropolitan Detroit area and was a member of SCORE business mentoring network. Active member of Birmingham Country Club and Innisbrook Golf and Country Club.

Gust was a devoted and dedicated member of the Greek Orthodox Church in America. He was a loyal member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. Beginning in the early 1960s, he became a member of the parish council where he served continuously for over 50 years. He served two terms as parish President, faithfully served on the Metropolis Council for over 25 years and served as Metropolis Treasurer for several years. Gust was appointed to the Archdiocese Council for many years and was one of the vice chairpersons of the 2000 visit of His All Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew to Detroit. He is an Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, a steadfast member of Leadership 100 and a member of AHEPA Alpha Bloomfield Chapter.

The family will receive friends Thursday, July 7, 2016 from 3-8 p.m. with Trisagion at 7:30 p.m. at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Road (between Maple and Big Beaver), 248-362-2500.

The Funeral Service will be on Friday, July 8, 2016 at 2 p.m. at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 760 W. Wattles Road, Troy. Visitation at church begins at 1:30 p.m.

Interment at White Chapel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Building Expansion Project or to the St. Nicholas Endowment Fund.
