Obituary

Joanne Elizabeth Christie - LOVING WIFE, MOTHER, GRANDMOTHER, GREAT-GRANDMOTHER AND FRIEND

Age 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, April 24, 2019. A long-time resident of Royal Oak, Joanne was the daughter of Louis and Mary Cote’. Beloved wife of 63 years to Richard S. Christie. She was the loving mother of Dick and Lucy, Linda and Bob, Mary Beth and Terry, Bill and Lisa and Chuck and Lisa. She was the grandmother of 20 grandchildren and great grandmother of 4. She was the sister of the late Mary Lou and Frank Ankenbrandt, Dick and Marian Cote’ and Chuck and Josie Cote’. She was also a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Joanne was a graduate of Shrine High School and Saint Mary of the Woods College where she was crowned the Homecoming Queen. Joanne was a first grade teacher at Parker Elementary in Royal Oak. Years later, Joanne became a member of the Brother Rice community where she was a member of the staff for over twenty-five years. Joanne was an avid golfer and her favorite golfing partner was her husband Dick. They together were regular attendee’s to both their children and grandchildren’s sporting events and extra-curricular activities. Joanne’s favorite pastime was knitting afghans and caps for local cancer patients.

Joanne will be dearly missed by her husband, family and countless friends.

The family will receive friends Sunday, April 28, 2019 from 2-7 p.m. with Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m. at A.J. Desmond and Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Rd., Troy (between Maple and Big Beaver) (248)362-2500.

The Funeral Mass will be on Monday April 29, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church, 32340 Pierce Street, Beverly Hills, MI 48025. Visitation at church begins at 9:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to either Brother Rice High School or Hospice of Michigan.
