JOHN JOSEPH ZERBIEC ~~
HIS DESIRE WAS TO LIVE LONG ENOUGH TO SEE HIS GRANDDAUGHTER GRADUATE FROM HARVARD

Mr. Zerbiec, age 90, died Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at Providence Hospital, in Southfield, Michigan. He had lived a long, healthy life, and eventually he just wanted to sleep. He was born on February 10, 1917, in Detroit, Michigan, to John Joseph and Frances Mary (Stach) Zrebiec. He had been a resident of Dearborn Heights area over 60 years, and he grew up in Hamtramck.

Education: Mr. Zerbiec graduated from DeLaSalle High School as his class’ Valedictorian. He attended the University of Michigan for 3 years pursuing a degree in Metallurgy.

Occupation: He retired from Ford Motor Company as a Buyer in 1981. Following retirement from Ford, he worked for the Mercier Corporation as General Manager for 10 years.

Mr. Zerbiec enjoyed traveling, especially to Mexico, Japan, Poland, and more. He also enjoyed traveling to all of Michigan. His family and friends will remember him as a very social person.

He was a natural teacher to his children, and he was very, very proud of all of his family’s achievements. All of his children followed in his footsteps in attending U of M.

Mr. Zerbiec was a huge fan of the Detroit Tigers, and he held season tickets to both the Tigers and U of M Football.

Mr. Zerbiec and his wife were founding members of Divine Child Church in Dearborn and he was very active there in every activity.

Military: Mr. Zerbiec was a proud U.S. Army Veteran of WW II. He served as a Master Sergeant in the Infantry stationed in France, and was part of the D-Day Campaign doing some paper processing. He was known for his one new boot.

Surviving Wife: Wanda M. (nee: Karpinski). They married 67 years ago.
Surviving Daughters: Cindy Graham (Jim) and Anne Merenda (Tom)
Surviving Son: Tim Hartmanszerbiec (Jeanne)
Grandchildren: Rick Anderson, Phil Anderson-Dailey (Bernadette), Tim, Susan, Helen, Genevieve, Peter Merenda, Eagle Hartmans
Great-grandchildren: Thomas, Emily & Theresa Dailey
Surviving Sister: Lottie Muzyk (Steve)
Also: many cousins, nephews and nieces

Arrangements by: A. J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Road, Troy, MI (248-362-2500).

Funeral Mass: Friday, July 27, 2007, at 11:00 AM at St. Hugo of the Hills Church, 2215 Opdyke Road, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, with The Reverend Msgr. Anthony Tocco officiating. Visitation at church begins at 10:00 AM.

Inurnment: St. Hugo of the Hills Columbarium, Bloomfield Hills
