JOSEPHINE M. ZEMBALA ~~ December 29, 2007
Josephine greeted the end of life with the same beautiful smile and bright spirit that she offered all her family and friends for 91 years. Her sparkling presence was the essence that made her a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Though her soul has gone to be with the Lord, her spirit will always live with those of us who loved her. It nurtured us to be our best and to face the world with kindness, generosity and love for others.
Jo loved to share her talents with us, whether it was the art of gardening, the traditions of Polish cooking, the many crafts she mastered or the creativity she put into her home. However she saved her most creative efforts to raise and cultivate an extended family that included her two sisters, brother and many relatives. She and her sister Charlotte were especially close. Both born in 1916, Jo came as a Christmas present for Baby Charlotte, and the two of them left this life a week apart, showing the power of the spirit over earthly things.
Josephine is survived by her loving family: son Dennis (Ann) Zembala; daughter Donna Rousseau (Rob); sister, Eugenia (Edmund) Sobczak; grandchildren, Margaret (John) Sullivan, Andrew Zembala, Reid and Jenna Rousseau, David Zembala and Rayna (David) Gill; great-grandson Jack Sullivan. She also leaves eight nieces and nephews and their families whose love she cherished. Josephine was predeceased by her loving husband Chester, son Gary Zembala, sister Charlotte Kosalka, brother Al Stevens, niece Joanne Sape, and granddaughter Jessica Zembala.
Family will receive friends at A. J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Road, Troy, Michigan (between Maple and Big Beaver) on Friday, January 4, 2008, from 3-9 PM.
Funeral Service on Saturday, January 5, 2008 - 10 AM at St. James Episcopal Church, 355 W. Maple Road, Birmingham, Michigan.
Interment: Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Detroit, Michigan
Memorials may be made to:
