KATY PROCTOR: LOVING WIFE, MOTHER, GRANDMOTHER, GREAT GRANDMOTHER, SISTER, AUNTIE, & FRIEND
At the age of 85, Katy still considered herself first and foremost the devoted wife of the late Woods “Woody” Proctor, mother, grandmother “Goody” and as good friend in her many close friendships. She passed away peacefully on January 19, 2020 after family gathered at her side.
Katy was born in Paw Paw, Michigan to Gianetta (nee Pray) and Charles TenHouten, M.D. She graduated from Michigan State University in 1956 with a B.A. degree in Arts and Humanities. That same year, she married 1st Lt. Woods Proctor, USAF, on Okinawa where she taught pre-school and 3rd grade. Afterwards, they moved to Birmingham where they started and raised their family.
She was the mother of Thomas (Charlene) of Bloomfield Hills, David (Lichinn) of San Ramon, California, and Karen (Bill) Frampton of Kula, Maui, Hawaii. Grandmother of the beloved and wonderful Jason (Bai) and Vaughn, Ryan and Hannah, Sam and Gabe. Great-grandmother of precious Ivy. Sister of Ed TenHouten (Denise), Warren TenHouten (Maria) and guardian of late Charles “Chucky” TenHouten, Sister in law to Carrie and the late Ed Proctor and the late Kitty Proctor. Auntie to many nieces and nephews, and close friend to countless others.
During her lifetime she was an avid reader, enthusiastic traveler, community volunteer, and supporter of the arts. She spent several years as chairman of exhibitions at the Birmingham Bloomfield Arts Center and was an Education Administrator at The Community House in Birmingham for 20 years. She was affectionately known by her family as the “Soup Lady” as she was giving, always willing to help others and known to take in strays - whether they were pets, family members, or friends in need.
• Family will receive friends at A.J. Desmond Funeral Home, 32515 Woodward Avenue, Royal Oak on Friday February 21 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm.
• Celebration of Life will be held at Kirk in the Hills Church, 1340 W Long Lake Rd, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48302 on Saturday, February 22 at 3:00 pm
