LILLIAN JEAN ZIMMERMANN, age 85, Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Clare Bridge of Troy. She was born Lillian Jean Hawkins on December 28, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan to William and Ingeborg Knudsen Hawkins. She had been a resident of Bingham Farms, Michigan for 40 years, and was a former resident of Birmingham for 10 years.
Lillian graduated from Kingswood High School and then pursued a B.A. degree in Chemistry from the University of Michigan.
She began her career at Chrysler Corp. in the late 1940's using the early Electron Microscope investigating the properties of different metals until the beginning of her family.
Mrs. Zimmermann enjoyed golfing, sailing (was involved in sailboat racing also), and fencing, but her real passion was in the equestrian arena. She traveled around the U.S. judging in Dressage Horse competitions, and passed that passion on to her daughter. She founded the Midwest Dressage Association, as well as helped to found the U.S. Dressage Federation. She was a board member of the American Horse Show Association, known today at the U.S. Equestrian Federation.
She also enjoyed traveling with her family, seeing the United States, visiting relatives, and judging dressage competitions.
