Obituary

Marcella "Marcy" M. Zelazny, (nee: Bradley) May 29, 2014. Loving and devoted wife of the late J. Donald. Dear mother of Donald J., D.D.S.(Michelle), Debra Wilson (William Jewell), Trudy Hoen (James) and Dan (Kara). Cherished grandmother of Pamela, Rachel, Lucy, Belle, Johnny, Andrew, Mac, Tessa, and Nora. Dearest sister of Peggy Rothermel (Harold), Helen Verner (the late George), John Bradley (Sharon), and Leo Bradley.

Marcy was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, one of 12 children of Urban and Margaret Bradley. She grew up in the small town of Peakes Station, outside of Charlottetown. After graduating nursing school with an LPN degree she moved to Cleveland, Ohio to live with her sister Helen in 1955. Marcy eventually took a job at Reliance Electric in Euclid Ohio, where she then lived with her sister Peggy. In the Spring of 1959 she met her future husband J. Donald (Don) Zelazny.

Among the many things they talked about was Marcy's time in rural PEI, hunting and fishing with her brothers. Being an avid hunter and fisherman himself this caught Don's ear. He tested her shooting skills one Sunday after Mass, with Marcy blasting cans while wearing high heels and a skirt. Don was impressed. A tradition in his family was a Thanksgiving morning hunt for the men and that year Don invited Marcy and her sister Peggy along for the hunt with Marcy toting a gun as well. That must have sealed the deal as that night they were engaged and enjoyed 53 years of marriage.

Marcy's other interests were attending (and loudly cheering at) her children's and then grand-children's sporting events, gardening and following her beloved Detroit Tigers. Her 80th birthday was celebrated at a game at Comerica Park in the Champion's Club. Other interests included cooking and sewing.

The family will receive friends Tuesday 4-8 p.m. with Prayers and Reflections at 7:30 p.m. at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Road (Between Maple & Big Beaver), 248-362-2500.

The Funeral Mass is scheduled for Wednesday, June 4, 2014 - 11 AM at St. Mary of the Hills Catholic Church, 2675 John R, Rochester Hills, Michigan, with Rev. Ronald Essman officiating. Visitation at church begins Wednesday at 10:30 AM.

Memorial tributes may be made to:
5 West Hospice Unit-Troy Beaumont Hospital, 44201 Dequindre Road, Troy, MI 48085
