DEVOTED AND LOVING WIFE, MOTHER, GRANDMOTHER, GIGI AND FRIEND
Marilyn Ann Hoover died peacefully at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital-Oakland on February 14, 2020.
Marilyn Ann (Johnson) Hoover was born on March 31, 1931 to Knute and Mary (Hadrava) Johnson. Marilyn married Richard Hoover on May 9, 1953 and had five children. During their 62 years together, they were longtime members of St. Hugo of the Hills Catholic Church. They enjoyed family events, traveling and attending Michigan State and Notre Dame football games. Marilyn treasured her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren compete in their sporting events.
Faith, Family, Friends and Nursing were the driving forces in her life. Marilyn had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother. Marilyn was gracious and her gentle demeanor touched many lives.
Marilyn was a graduate of Pontiac Central High School and Mercy College of Nursing.
Marilyn was retired from St. Joseph Mercy-Oakland where she had a wonderful career as an Orthopedic Nurse.
Marilyn inherited her Czech Mother's baking talent. Many amazing pies, cookies and pastries were enjoyed by family and friends over the years. During the last several years, Marilyn blessed the family with many stories from her childhood, including summer visits to the Johnson and Hadrava family farms in northern Minnesota.
Richard and their infant son, Paul preceded Marilyn in death. Marilyn is survived by her children Edward (Dawn) Hoover, Thomas Hoover, Christine (John) Olis, and James (Peggy) Hoover. Marilyn enjoyed her seven grandchildren, Shaun, Casey, Quinn, John, Margaret, Kyle, and Brendan. She was affectionately known as ‘GIGI” to her three great-grandchildren, Will, Nora and D.J.
Marilyn is survived by her beloved siblings, Edward (Gloria) Johnson, Lawrence Johnson, Susan Bardsley and many nephews and nieces.
Marilyn was a generous and loving person who will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Marilyn has gone to Heaven to be with her valentine, Richard.
Family will receive friends Friday, February 21, 11 am till 1 pm Funeral Service at the A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 32515 Woodward Ave. (between 13 and 14 Mile Rds) Royal Oak.
