Michael J. Ronan, 77, formerly of Phoenix, AZ, died February 6, 2020, at Mennonite Friendship Communities, South Hutchinson, KS. He was born July 13, 1942, in Detroit, MI, to Bernard and Flores (Pitcher) Ronan.
Michael graduated from Austin Catholic Preparatory School, Detroit, MI. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Detroit and his master’s degree from the University of Michigan. Michael served as a school principal, before becoming a computer programmer for Accenture Consulting. He enjoyed stamp collecting. Michael was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Cave Creek, AZ, where he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. On June 23, 1973, he married Emily Dyer in Flint, MI.
Michael is survived by: his wife of almost 47 years, Emily of Hutchinson; son, Marc Ronan (Hollie) of Hutchinson; daughter, Susan Gourley (Vicki) of Benton, AR; three grandchildren, who called him ‘Papa’, Brendan, Grace, and Gavin Ronan, all of Hutchinson; sister, Patricia Redding (Peter); and sister-in-law, Peggy Ronan, all of Troy, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Paul Ronan.
The family will receive friends Friday, February 14, 2020, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Rd (between Maple and Big Beaver), Troy, MI 248-362-2500.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 10 a.m. at St. Anastasia Roman Catholic Church, 4571 John R Rd., Troy with The Reverend Jacob VanAssche officiating. Visitation at church will begin at 9:30 a.m.
Private family burial will take place in Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery, Southfield, MI, with Father Tony Richter officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Down Syndrome Society of Wichita, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
