Obituary

Nick Chronis passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Wednesday, July 4, 2019, at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, MI. He was born September 19, 1953, in Zacharo, Greece to Ageliki Chronopoulou (late). He is survived by his loving wife Stephanie of over 42 years, and children Ageliki (Charalambos) and Maria, and his grandchildren Elena, Nikolaos, Michael and soon to be baby boy.

Nick’s legacy began when he was born to a strong woman Ageliki. He began working at a young age of 14 on ships; leaving behind his mother to be able to provide for her even from afar. After his mother passed away he moved to America. He came to Detroit and then went to Iowa and met Stephanie on a blind date. Just a few months later they were married and moved to Detroit. A few years later, Stephanie gave birth to their oldest daughter Ageliki and then in 1986 to Maria. His daughters were his pride and joy and he dedicated his life to ensuring their financial security, happiness and well-being.

Nick’s sense of humor and ability to make people laugh will always be remembered. His words of wisdom, stories about his life and his experiences have shaped many lives. Everyone knew if they needed someone to listen, he was always there. Nick placed family above all and wanted nothing more than to spend time with his loved ones. He developed many cherished lifelong friendships that turned into family over the years.

During his free time, Nick surrounded himself with people who he cared for and loved. He loved to entertain people at home and no one ever left his home hungry. Whenever he had the opportunity, he enjoyed going to Greece and spending his time with family and friends, and in recent years, showing off his grandchildren for all to see.

Family and friends whose lives Nick has touched are invited to the AJ Desmond Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Rd, Troy, MI from 2pm - 8pm Monday, July 8, 2019 with Trisagion at 7pm, to celebrate the life, reminisce, support each other and, of course, chat and remember Nick. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday 10 a.m. at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 760 W. Wattles, Troy.

Nick’s dream was to be able to help children in need. To honor that wish, in lieu of flowers we are asking that donations are made in Nick’s name to the Ronald McDonald House.
