Obituary

Philip Ginotti died April 14, 2019. He was 90 years old, and was born October 15, 1928 in Highland Park, Michigan to Carlo and Maria Ginotti. Philip grew up in a large family in Highland Park and graduated from Highland Park High School. Growing up, he attended Santa Maria Catholic Church in Detroit.

Philip proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard from 1950 to 1953 and devoted much of his adult life to service to others. Following his discharge from the Coast Guard, Philip joined the Highland Park Fire Department in 1954. He was ultimately appointed as Chief of the department and proudly served in that capacity until his retirement in 1983. He remained in touch with the men and women he worked with for many years following his retirement.

His family was the pillar of Philip’s life. He was the devoted husband of the late Barbara for 59 years. They enjoyed a special devotion to each other. They raised their family in Highland Park and attended St. Benedict Church. Later, they became parishioners of Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak until they moved to Commerce Township where they attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in White Lake. Philip and Barbara worked every day to ensure their house was a place for friends and family to visit, and made sure every visitor was well-fed.

Philip loved to play golf whenever he found the opportunity and enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers. He was also a passionate, but long-suffering, Lions fan and enjoyed working through crossword puzzles working in his yard.

Philip will be missed, but will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Philip was the beloved husband of the late Barbara for 59 years. Loving father of Scott Phillips (Mary Gail), William Phillips, Carlo Ginotti (Carolyn), Rick Ritivoy (Kim), and the late Philip D. Ginotti. Grandfather of Carlo H., Sophia, John, Michael, Brianna, Cyrell, and Jillian. Brother of Ann Waybridge. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends Tuesday from 2-8pm with a Scripture Service 7pm at A.J. Desmond & Sons (Vasu, Rodgers & Connell Chapel), 32515 Woodward (btwn 13-14 Mile), 248-549-0500.

Funeral Mass Wednesday 10am at National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica (Woodward at 12 Mile) Royal Oak. Visitation at Church begins at 9:30am.
