Obituary

Robert C. Nixon - Loving husband, father, granddad and friend. He was an amazing man who lived an amazing life.

Bob, first and foremost, was married to Greta for almost 63 years. They were married in Detroit, Michigan in 1956. They were life-long Detroiters (both being lovers of art and design) who met at Cass Tech High School, and together, they never looked back. They have 3 children, John, Susan & Hilary.

Bob was honorably discharged from the United States Army during the Korean War Conflict. He then graduated from the Chrysler Institute of Design and was hired by the Chrysler Design office. He then joined good old American Motors Corporation in 1959, where he rose through the ranks to the position of Director of Exterior Styling. He was personally responsible for the design of many memorable vehicles including the Rambler, AMX, Javelin, Gremlin and the Pacer, to name a few. He re-joined Chrysler after surviving the Renault “end period” of American Motors. Back at Chrysler, he received a United States patent for the design of the 1st generation Jeep Grand Cherokee. He retired after nearly 40 years in the industry as the Design Chief for the Jeep and Dodge Truck division.

Bob then transitioned seamlessly into the next amazing chapter in his life, which was pottery. For 20+ years, Bob was an award-winning potter who created brilliant ceramic pieces.

He was always there for all three children whether it was school functions, dance recitals, ball games or freezing-cold hockey practices.

He loved ALL the dogs. He regularly volunteered and donated his time and money to area animal foundations. He loved watching Tiger baseball. He loved his wife, Greta. He loved his three children John, Sue & Hilary. He loved his son-in-law Bob Hilton. He loved his daughter-in-law Jenny and his three beautiful granddaughters Kelly, Erin and Kate.

He always shared his love for the arts, and his passion for life.

Family will receive friends Saturday from 2:30-6:30pm at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home (Vasu, Rodgers & Connell Chapel), 32515 Woodward Ave (btwn 13-14 Mile), Royal Oak, (248) 549-0500.

~Lovingly submitted by family~
