Obituary

Sally Ann McRitchie, 72, beloved wife of Jim for 46 years, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2020.

Sally was born in Bryan, Ohio on May 25, 1947, to the late Harold and Virginia Parnham. She earned her undergraduate degree from Bowling Green State University and made lifelong friends while there. Teacher friends encouraged her to move north to Michigan where they could work together. While working in Utica as a middle school librarian, Sally completed her Master’s degree at the University of Michigan. In Michigan, she met the love of her life, Jim, settled down and started a family.

A wonderful wife, Sally was also a loving mother and grandmother and dear lifelong friend to many. She loved spending time with her family, especially her precious grandchildren who filled her with joy. She was patient and kind with them, making each of the “Grands” feel special and loved. As a twin, Sally’s special bond with Jane kept their families close and loving. She cared with love and patience for her and Jim’s parents as they aged.

Her loves of teaching and reading kept her involved in the community as well. “Miss Sally” taught pre-school and Sunday school at the First United Methodist Church of Birmingham for many years and volunteered with the Friends of the Baldwin Public Library. When she wasn’t teaching, she enjoyed the knitting, quilting, and book groups she was part of.

Sally was a kind, loving, and generous woman who played an influential role in the growth of many young people throughout her life. She relished the opportunity to make a difference in her community personally and professionally; and did so. Sally will be missed dearly by those who received her love (or knit scarves).

Beloved wife of Jim for 46 years. Loving mother of Matthew (Emily) of Ann Arbor, MI and Daniel (Kathryn) of Memphis, TN. Proud grandmother of Henry, Mae, David, Lucas, and Cora. Cherished twin sister of the late Jane Hermann.

A memorial service will be celebrated on Friday, March 6, 2020 at 11:00AM at Birmingham First United Methodist Church 1589 W. Maple Rd., Birmingham, MI 48009. Visitation begins at the church at 10:00AM with a lunch to follow the service.

Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a donation to Birmingham First United Methodist Church in care of the “Children’s Ministry in memory of Sally McRitchie”.
