Obituary

Sherrell Carpenter Jorgenson, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away on December 31st, 2019 at age 87. He passed peacefully in his sleep at Beaumont Hospital in Troy, Michigan. He was surely received lovingly on the other side of the veil by his deceased wife, Leola Elva Elliott Jorgenson and his deceased daughter, Shauna Jorgenson.

Sherrell is survived by his wife, Margaret Dana Jorgenson of Troy, MI, his son Keith Elliott Jorgenson of North Salt Lake, UT, and Margaret’s five children, 10 grandchildren, and one great grandson: Carrie Dana (Bryan) Phelps (Sawyer, Porter, Abbie, Ella) of Syracuse, UT; Margot Dana of Salt Lake City, UT; Kimball Dana of San Diego, CA; Benjamin (Jamie) Dana (Katelyn, Collin, Chase, Audrey) of Tomball, TX; Elizabeth Dana Knight (Alexander, Grayson) of Saratoga Springs, UT; great grandson Boston Phelps (son of Sawyer and Nicole Phelps) of Richfield, Utah.
Sherrell was born in Park City, Utah and was raised nearby on a family farm in Peoa. As a youth he loved to hunt, fish, and ski the surrounding mountain terrain. Sherrell enlisted in the Air Force and served in the Korean War as a member of the 65th Bomb Squadron. After the war, Sherrell received Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Biology from the University of Utah. Sherrell met his first wife, Leola, in Utah where they had two children, Shauna and Keith, before moving the family to Brunswick, Georgia and later, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Sherrell worked as a Fisheries Research Biologist for the US Department of Interior for 29 years, spending time on the Atlantic Ocean and the Great Lakes. After Leola’s passing and his retirement, Sherrell found new purpose when he met Margaret. He relocated to Troy, Michigan and enjoyed gardening, knitting, classical music, and traveling with Margaret.

Sherrell was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he served most recently as a Stake Patriarch, Temple Sealer, and Volunteer at LDS Social Services.
