Obituary

STANLEY R. ZONCA - LOVING HUSBAND, DAD, GRANDPA AND GREAT-GRANDPA

Stanley R. Zonca passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of August 29, 2017 after a short battle with cancer at the age of 86.

Stan was born on February 22, 1931 in Detroit. He graduated from St. Hedwig High School, where he played football, baseball and basketball. He was an avid supporter of the Detroit Tigers, Michigan Wolverines and Detroit Red Wings. Stan served our country as an Army Corporal Military Police in the Korean War from December 1951 through November 1953. Shortly after his return home, he met Corroll J. McDermid. They were married on June 25, 1955 in St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Detroit. They had four children, and recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. Stan worked for 35 years as a material control clerk for Cadillac Motor Car Company, where he never missed a day of work.

Stan cherished his family and the time he spent with them, and he supported his children and grandchildren throughout their various sports, music and extracurricular activities. He was their biggest cheerleader, even though he sat quietly in his seat and took it all in. He was dad to Vicki (Michael) Caine, Randy (Sue), Kathy (Sam) Agrusa, and Rob (Mary). He was grandpa to Laurie (Sean) Hendrick, Justin (Meaghan) Caine, Nikki (Chris) Lipka, Katie (Ryan) Paternoster, Brian (Amanda) Zonca, Megan, Justin, Josh and Aaron Agrusa, and Timothy, Michael and Amanda Zonca. He was great-grandpa to Tyler and Sloane Hendrick, Felicity and Silas Caine, Carly, Nora and Liam Lipka, Andrew and Charlotte Paternoster and Taetum Zonca. He was dog dad to Molly.

Stan was an avid reader and enjoyed completing the New York Times crossword puzzles. He coached many Little League and girls softball teams. He loved to travel with his wife, children and grandchildren throughout the United States. He and Corroll celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a trip to London and Paris.

Stan had the gift of touching each and every person with whom he came in contact, because he truly lived by these words: "Be someone who makes everybody feel like somebody."
