Susan Jane Hibbard, a resident of Farmington Hills, MI for the past 25 years, passed away on February 28, 2020 at the age of 76 after a long struggle with dementia. She was a dedicated wife, loving mother and grandmother, and a helpful and supportive friend. She will be remembered for her quiet support, pragmatic, practical approach and dry sense of humor. She was a caregiver for the family and always willing to help out friends and neighbors with a little bit of nursing expertise and support.

Sue was born December 30, 1943 in Stillwater, MN, the daughter of Dean and Jane (Davies) Thompson. She graduated from Holland (MI) high school in 1962, and from the university of Michigan in 1966 with a degree in nursing. On November 4, 1967 she married Frank Hibbard, whom she met at U of M, and was married to him for almost 50 years until his passing in 2017. She had a long career as a registered nurse and worked for several hospitals and private practices through the years.

Sue lived an active life gardening, sewing, bird watching and walking, but also enjoyed a quiet book, puzzles, or game of dominos. She was a member of the Presbyterian church where she participated in numerous mission trips and the bell choir. Along with her participation in the bell choir, she maintained a love of music by playing the recorder and piano, and supporting her children’s musical development.

Susan is survived by her two sons Christopher and wife Jennifer Keeler; and Timothy and wife Susan; her three grandsons; her brother Kenneth Thompson; and several nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank, and her parents Dean and Jane Thompson.

A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date.
