Suya Zhang, 82, of Madison Heights, Michigan passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2013 surrounded by her family.

A true gardener at heart. She took great pride in her roses and her vegetables. She was also very talented on the piano. But it was her love of the garden that brought her joy.

Suya was born in Fuzhou, China on January 17, 1931 to the late Wei Min Zhang and Gui Yuan Su. She was one of six children growing up in China. She was an ambitious young lady who excelled in school and actually skipped middle school then was home schooled in high school before attending one of the top colleges in China, Fu Dan University in Shang Hai.

Her love of teaching and science served her well at Sun Yat-Sen University when she began there as a faculty member in 1954. She later joined the faculty of the department of Biology at Jinan University in 1958. In 1981 she was sent to Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio by WHO to study immune-contraception. she later spent her time as a research scientist at Wayne State University until she retired in 1995.

Suya is survived by her three children: Paul Zhang (Sabrina Yum), JunXian Zhang (Weiping Li), and Xiaowen Hobden (Jeffery). Devoted grandmother of Changyi Li and Alexander Zhang. Dear sister of Su Zhan Zhang and Su Ling Zhang.
