Obituary

WANDA MARY ZERBIEC, age 91, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at home. She was born Wanda M. Karpinski on September 9, 1918, in Hamtramck, Michigan to Francis and Mary Karpinski. She had been a resident of Dearborn Heights for 63 years.

Education: Wanda graduated from Cass Tech High School (Detroit), and attended Wayne State University (Detroit).

Occupation: Mrs. Zerbiec was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a caring homemaker.

Even though Mrs. Zerbiec enjoyed her solitude, she was still very close to many family and friends. She will be remembered as being friendly, independent, and self-actualizing - she made things happen.

Mrs. Zerbiec was a founding member of Divine Child Parish in Dearborn, Michigan, and was an active member of the Altar Society there. She was an accomplished seamstress and made many linens and vestments for the church. During WW II, she was "Rosie the Riveter" and loved working with tools even up to a few months ago.

She maintained her home by herself, and had received many awards from the City. She had an incredible work ethic.

Mrs. Zerbiec was a very intelligent lady, and demanded the best from her children. When she was in the 4th grade, she won the Detroit News Metropolitan Spelling Bee. She had so much to be proud of, but never boasted - she never wanted to be singled out. Mrs. Zerbiec appreciated the highest forms of cultural achievement, but she was not ostentatious. She didn't make things beautiful to receive compliments from others, but to make sure that they truly enjoyed them.

Deceased husband of 67 years: the late John Zerbiec, deceased July 25, 2007
Surviving Daughters: Cindy Graham (Jim) and Anne Merenda (Tom)
Surviving Son: Tim Hartmanszerbiec (Jeanne)
Grandchildren: Rick Anderson, Phil Anderson-Dailey (Bernadette), Tim, Susan, Helen, Genevieve, and Peter Merenda, and Eagle Hartmans (Sharon)
Great-grandchildren: Thomas, Emily, and Theresa Dailey
Also survived by many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and the Graham Family

Special thanks to Randy Kowalczyk for his kind and loving care
